Paper, Planes & Pinot

In Other Words… Stationery, Travel, and All Else that Matters

Weekly Reads – 1.23.15

I know I neglected to give you all a blog post earlier this week, but I promise I have a legit reason why.  I have been SUPER busy with Paper, Planes & Pinot type things. Namely, VALENTINES! I cannot wait to share some samples next week, but in the meantime here is a little teaser:

This week I also stumbled upon these great reads:

The other weekend during brunch, one of my smart engineer friends tried to explain 3D printing to me. Between the mimosas and the technical jargon, most of it was over my head. Thankfully, I came across this article on Nervous System about a dress made with a 3D printer. Now I totally get it.

I spent this past weekend in Richmond celebrating my dad’s 65th birthday. When we weren’t out and about, I happened to mention that I was into wallpaper. My mom and beau basically told me that wallpaper is NOT COOL. I was crushed. Then I came upon this post on The Average Girl’s Guide that talking about how wallpaper is actually IN. BOOYAH. Thank goodness I have the internet on my side.

I came across this great kitchen on La Dolce Vida. I love the herringbone flooring and the unexpected color of the cabinets.  I am also really intrigued with the glass windows and doors although I am sure that it is a tough job to Windex it all. All in all it is just a great design.  It is always refreshing to see something new and unexpected!

I really struggle with committing to a decorating theme at times.  I love some contemporary pieces, but I also like my living space to look homey and comfortable.  Decoholic had a great post this week featuring a “contemporary yet warm house.’  Now all I can think about is how I need a tufted sofa and hanging light fixtures.

Coming from Richmond I have always had a love for exposed brick.  Think Shockoe.  It adds so much character.  Another homey feature that I love are exposed ceiling beams.  They can be the same color as the ceiling, or a different color.  Domaine Home put together a post showing some great ceiling beams. Sidenote: Wow.  I am confirmation that I am getting older – I find ceiling décor interesting.

More snow is coming this way.  I’ll be doing a little snow dance this weekend hoping for a snowday on Monday!  The one thing I do hate about the snow is what you drag in when you get home… nasty boots. Brooklyn Limestone has this great DIY project making a door mat/boot tray.  Perfect for a mud room or entry hallway!

I am not a plant nurturer.  I bought myself a little plant at work, and within a week my office neighbor had to take over caring for it.  Then my team got me a plant for my birthday… that one has also been adopted by my neighbor.  I have always heard about plant terrariums are pretty low maintenance.  Maybe I should make this terrarium from A Fabulous Fete?

I love my Lilly planner.  No doubt about it, it is beautiful.  This past week though, I came across this Laurel Denise planner.  Being someone that just switched from a straight monthly planner to a monthly/weekly, I have had some struggles.  I love love love the layout of this planner, letting you see your monthly plans as well as weekly at the same time.

Confession: I am late to the Serial craze.  I just started listening to the series last week, and I am already on episode nine.  I have tried to force myself to only listen while commuting to and from work.  I have faltered 2x – I listened once at work and once while making dinner.  Nonetheless I LOVE IT.  I am already wondering what I am going to do during my commute when I finish.  Thank goodness The Coveteur put out this post about other podcasts to listen to. I think I am going to start Under the Influence next.

When I saw this post on how to make mini cookies on Lauren Conrad’s blog I immediately thought of Potbelly’s milkshakes – which are pretty damn good.  Now the party planner in me wants to have a summer cookout and serve milkshakes with cookies on the straw.  I do have a ninja now that makes a mean milkshake, so why not?

Being Filipino I love tropical fruits.  With this being said, I just think that this idea for a pineapple  almond cheese ball on Say Yes is so cute!  I mean 3 of my loves, tropical fruit, cheese and nuts.  What’s not to like?

I love crockpot recipes.  They are hard to mess up and super tasty.  Camille Styles had a great post this past week with awesome crockpot recipes.  These aren’t your usual run of the mill pulled pork recipes.  These are pork ramen and s’mores brownie recipes.  YUM YUM YUM.

I am currently on a grapefruit kick.  I eat a grapefruit every day, and my current alcoholic drink of choice is grapefruit vodka and water.  SO – when I saw this recipe for grapefruit bars on Freut Cake I was smitten. I cannot wait to try this recipe out – I already know what dessert I am packing in my lunch next week!

I definitely struggled when choosing between the cobalt and black Dange Dover tote. Although I went with the black one, I am still in love with cobalt.  For the Love of Fancy has me thinking that I really need to invest in some suede cobalt pumps.  Perfect way to add a pop of color!

And finally…

Red Velvet Oreos. ‘Nuff said.

Enjoy!
